The
video covers the boats built by most manufactures of the pre 1960s such
as Peterborough, Lakefield, Ross, Dunphy, Chetek, Lyman, etc. Most manufactures
used the same construction methods of thin cedar strips running fore and
aft held together with copper nails fastened through steam bent ribs so were generically
known as cedarstrips. The
boats were very common before and after the War and most people remember
them and a lot of people still own one, but usually in very poor condition.
Because this type of construction was unique to cedar strip boats most wooden
boat restoration shops have a hard time dealing with them and usually won't
take them or if they do the work it is of questionable quality.
Our video (2 1/2 hrs) takes the restorer
from start to finish through a process that we designed. The Video addresses
all the common problems with cedarstrips. The tools required are all common
tools and the woodworking skills are in the average range.
